Our checker
How the checker behaves on your site.
If you found VirtualWebmaster/1.0 (+https://virtualwebmasterservice.com/bot) in your logs, someone ran a checkup of your site here, or you verified the site in a Rounds Book.
- Read-only. GET and HEAD requests to public pages only. It never logs in, never submits forms, never runs scripts.
- Small. One checkup reads one page, up to 30 of its images/scripts/stylesheets, up to 40 of its links (HEAD first), plus robots.txt, the sitemap, the favicon, the other www/bare variant and one made-up address to see that missing pages answer 404. At most 4 requests at a time; the whole checkup stops after 25 seconds.
- Not often. The same site (any page on it) is checked at most once every two minutes, and a repeat of the same address within ten minutes is answered from the saved report.
- Scheduled checks need the owner's proof. Hourly pings (one request) and weekly checkups only run for sites whose owner put a verification tag or file on the site. Remove it and they stop within two weeks.
- Never private addresses. It refuses any name that points at a private, reserved or local network address, and only uses the normal web ports (80 and 443), including for files and links it finds on a page.
- Never its own network. It does not check sites hosted on WeldonPC's own server network (74.219.246.0/24), where the checker itself runs. A checkup of such a site is turned away with a message, and it does not count against the day's free checkups.
The checker does not read robots.txt rules to decide what to fetch (it reads robots.txt to report on it), because a one-off checkup is requested by a person, like a browser visit. To stop one-off checkups of your site, block the user agent above at your server.
